What is Muay Thai?
Muay Thai is the martial art began in Thailand and employs age old techniques of clinching and up-right kicks and punches. Comparable to other styles of kickboxing from Indochina, Muay Thai is more widely recognized. Muay Thai (Thai: มวยไทย, IPA:mūɛj tʰāj) is Thailand's national sport and is descended from muay boran an earlier without arms martial art of Thailand with a lower stance. Muay Thai is an development of borrowed techniques from Kamae Kham Sao, Pradal Serey (Cambodia), Tomoi (Malaysia),Llethwei (Myanmar) and Muay Lao from Laos. The word muay which means boxing comes from the Sanskrit term mavya and a Muay Thai boxer is known as a nak muay. Western students and competitors are sometimes called nak muay farang meaning foreign boxer.
